Winning design revealed in EMM cover contest

A winner has been announced in the cover design contest for Environmental and Molecular Mutagenesis, the flagship journal of the Environmental Mutagenesis and Genomics Society.

Andre L. Savio, a professor at Nove de Julho University in São Paulo, Brazil, submitted the winning design. Savio credits colleagues Fábio H. Fernandes and Leonardo C. Menezes as collaborators on the submission.

Proposals were solicited from EMGS members for a concept/design for the new cover, and six entries were submitted for the contest. According to EMM Editor-In-Chief Bhaskar Gollapudi, contestants were “given a clean sheet to be as creative as possible in reflecting the mission of the EMGS and the scope of EMM in the cover concept/design.” As the winning designer, Savio will be awarded an Apple iPad worth approximately $500.

EMM publishes nine times per year, plus a supplementary issue covering abstracts from the EMGS annual meeting. Gollapudi believes this is only the third cover design in the publication’s history (excluding supplementary editions) and expects Savio’s design to debut in the second half of 2020.
