Engelward, Philip C. Hanawalt, James T. MacGregor, Stephanie L. Smith-Roe, Kristine L. Witt, Carole L. Yauk, Mats Ljungman, Jeffrey L. Schwartz, and Catherine B. Klein.
EMGS, formerly known as the EMS, recently concluded a formalized process to evaluate whether the name of the Society (EMS) captured sufficiently the breadth of research conducted by its members. In their article, Dr. Wilson and coauthors, all leaders within EMGS, describe the impetus for and details of the process that resulted in the renaming of EMS to The Environmental Mutagenesis and Genomics Society (EMGS). The article describes the formation of the EMS Brand Identity Task Force and the actions taken by the Task Force. The Task Force conducted a survey of the EMS membership, aimed at identifying the concepts most relevant to the Society’s mission. The results of the survey and how the results were used to select the new name are clearly and precisely described in the article, along with the specific steps that were followed in order to effect the name change, information that should be of interest to all member of EMGS.
