Adverse Outcome Pathways (AOPs) – are a conceptual framework for portraying scientifically credible, causal linkages between perturbations of biological systems at the molecular, cellular, biochemical levels of organization to adverse effects to human or environmental health. They are a knowledge synthesis and aggregation tool with a wide range of applications in environmental safety assessments of chemicals and radiation, environmental health, human medicine, life sciences research, and a range of regulatory and policy arenas that rely on science-based decision-making. AOPs stored in the AOP knowledgebase (AOP-KB) are assembled and disseminated through the AOP-Wiki (aopwiki.org).

Want to learn more about the AOP Framework? Check out this presentation and website from the OECD:

  • Developing and publishing novel AOPs or contributing to existing AOPs?
  •  Using AOPs to inform risk assessments, regulation, or policy setting?
  • Conducting research that fills critical gaps in our current understanding of biological systems?
  • Learning more about AOPs and their applications?
  • Shaping the evolution of the AOP framework and AOP-KB?
